LSR’s Chairman, Nathan Wheeler was very happy indeed to attend Wellness (with Whisky). A whisky tasting fundraising evening in support of the Sailors’ Society’s “Wellness at Sea Week”

Splendidly hosted by Richard Wilmot of Stephenson Harwood and his merry band (and ultimately very merry band) of helpers, the attendees learned the finer arts of whisky tasting, moving our way sedately through some lovely examples of Scotland’s finest produce. The event was given more Scottish authenticity by a real live bagpiper. Toe-tapping-tastic, and certainly fandabydozy ! This was all in support of the Sailors’ Society, an organisation I have been proud to be involved with for 15 years or more, the last 10 as one of the growing list of the charity’s Ambassadors. The Sailors’ Society provides essential emotional and fiscal support to seafarers and their families around the world. Whilst I was at sea I was fortunate enough to be employed by a socially responsible company that prized its sea-going staff. Others are not so fortunate and isolation, family separation, wage disputes, piracy trauma and illness are prevalent. The charity does sterling work to support these forgotten heroes of commerce – the simple seafarer. Look around your office – most of everything you see will have been on a ship at some point, either in its present state or as a raw material. We all owe a debt. If you want to get involved then visit the Sailors’ Society website by clicking the link here. This weekend sees the Hong Kong hike and there are plenty of other fundraising events you can get involved with year round, both in Asia and Europe.
